About Patrick

Patrick Karpiczenko—also known by his nickname Karpi—is a Swiss comedian, author, director, producer, and speaker on generative AI. Born in 1986 in Bern, he studied film at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) from 2005 to 2008 and began his career directing advertising films.

He is the co‑creator, head writer, and director of the SRF late‑night show Deville, where he also appeared on‑camera as Dominic Deville’s sidekick until 2020. In 2013, he co‑wrote and directed the SRF sketch show Twist.

Patrick gained viral fame with the satirical clip “American First, Switzerland Second,” co‑written with his Deville team—making it Switzerland’s most‑watched YouTube video of 2017, with over 13 million views. In 2023, he produced an AI‑generated “Heidi” movie trailer that went viral—garnering over 21 million views.

Since 2016, he has co‑led the production company Apéro Film GmbH with his partner Natascha Beller. Together, they produced the feature comedy Die fruchtbaren Jahre sind vorbei, which premiered on the Piazza Grande at Locarno Film Festival in 2019 and was nominated for the audience prize there and at the Solothurn Film Festival in 2020.

He also writes a weekly column, “Karpipedia – Neue Wörter braucht das Land”, for NZZ am Sonntag Magazine, and contributes a recurring column “Fünf‑Sterne‑Karpi” to Beobachter. Patrick is frequently invited as a keynote speaker and moderator on topics related to generative AI.
